UNIFORM PATROL DIVISION - Fannin County Sheriff's Office

UNIFORM PATROL DIVISION

The Uniform Patrol Division is commanded by Lt. Terry Stanley. The Division consists of 5 Sergeants known as watch commanders, 4 Corporals, and 8 Deputy Sheriffs. As Commander of the Uniform Patrol Division, Lt. Stanley is responsible for the efficient operation of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division.

It is the responsibility of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division to respond to all calls for Law Enforcement service within the unincorporated areas of Fannin County. With more than sixty-five percent of all sworn officers in the department assigned to the ‘Uniform Division’, it is by far the largest and most visible component of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office. Officers of the ‘Uniform Division’ work in one of three zones within Fannin County and respond to over 9,000 calls for service per year generating over 2,000 reports. When not responding to calls for service, officers of the Uniform Patrol Division aggressively enforce the traffic laws of the State of Georgia and patrol their zones to ensure the safety of the citizens in the county. Assignments within the ‘Uniform Division’ include, but are not limited to: Patrol, D.U.I. enforcement, Highway Enforcement and Crime Suppression.

Due to the high volume of emergency 911 calls received at times in the county, some non-priority reports may be handled by telephone allowing for Uniform Patrol Officers to remain in service to handle priority calls. Deputies are contacted by the Fannin County Emergency operations center to handle telephone reporting. Since the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division processes crime scenes for latent evidence (fingerprints) it may not be necessary for a Uniform Patrol Officer to respond to the scene. Once a report has been generated by phone and if the scene requires processing for evidence, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division will be dispatched to handle this.

Uniform Patrol Division Department Head

Lt. Terry Stanley

Lt. Stanley became a certified deputy in 2009 when Sheriff Kirby took office. He was one of only a handful of people who Sheriff Kirby brought with him upon taking office. After only two short years he was awarded Sgt. Deputy of the year. The following year (2012) Sgt. Stanley was promoted to Lt. Stanley where he is still presently gaining the respect of not just our Uniform Patrol division, but the entire office and staff. He is trusted by all to always provide sound leadership and guidance.

One of the reasons that Lt. Stanley is held in such high regard is because he leads by example. He presents the image and attitude daily that he asks his men to present. He is the type supervisor who would never ask someone to do something that he isn’t willing to do himself. Lt. Stanley takes pride in helping others and has been recognized for that numerous times.
